And speaking of 50 year reunions! Jeannie
Sabin-Yanko (class of '65), sister of our classmate Valerie Garrett, wrote a poem to share with her classmates as they prepare
for their 50th reunion. Valerie sent it on to share with our class. Thanks to the Sabin sisters!
1965 ~ Looking Back Fifty Years ~
2015
Looking back fifty years, thinking of those innocent days
Three
years spent at Wilson, living through our teenage phase
Just beginning our lives then, never imagining
being this old
Or how times would so change, and how our lives would unfold
Still
sweet memories drift back to nights dancing the Twist
Then a drive to the beach where we loved being kissed
Remembering mean teachers and the homework - what a bore
Telling
parents we’d be at the library but really cruising Belmont Shore
Fun
Milk Bowls and Homecomings and hanging Poly’s bunny
And our conversations always
ending in boss, bitchin’ or funny
Or the secret of our bear Woody who was always so
cute
Well that mystery now solved, Claudia Harmon was in that suit
So
today we may have some wrinkles or don’t like what we weigh
But what’s important
is our “life story” and its treasures we convey
And though real wars and Star Wars and 9/11 changed how we
think
We still have a bit of Long Beach in us, where forever our lives interlink ....
